Jeffrey L. Shanaberger, Partner in Hill Wallack LLP’s Trial & Insurance Defense practice group.

Mr. Shanaberger concentrates his practice in the defense of diverse public entities and their employees, such as counties, municipalities, school districts and fire districts in state and federal court as well as administrative agencies including contested matters in the Office of Administrative Law. Mr. Shanaberger also has extensive appellate practice experience before the New Jersey Supreme Court, the Appellate Division of the Superior Court and the Third Circuit Court of Appeals.

Mr. Shanaberger earned his J.D. from New York Law School with honors where he served as Articles Editor for the Journal of International and Comparative Law. He has also served as an Arbitrator in the Superior Court Law Division. Mr. Shanaberger earned Bachelor of Arts degree with honors from Rutgers College where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.

Mr. Shanaberger is admitted to practice in New Jersey, New York, the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, the Third Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court.

  • Mr. Shanaberger has also been a speaker at in-service educational seminars in several New Jersey school districts and a featured speaker before the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association on matters of liability in school athletic programs.
Representative Matters
  • He has tried more than 20 civil cases to conclusion, and has briefed and argued dozens of appeals including multiple appearances before the New Jersey Supreme Court in Title 59 cases. He has appeared in ten appeals that have resulted in published opinions.
  • Mr. Shanaberger has defended public housing authorities in numerous engagements by private general liability insurance carriers and by the Housing Authority Risk Retention Group (“HARRG”), a member company of the Housing Authority Insurance Group (“HAIG”) since its formation in 1986.
  • In addition to Title 59 bodily injury and property damage matters, the scope of Mr. Shanaberger’s representation has included CEPA, LAD, employment, discrimination and civil rights claims.
